Know The Truth – What Is The Gospel?

According to the Bible Jesus was betrayed by Judas. “And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.” Matthew 26:47-49. Jesus was arrested by the Romans, who were Gentiles. “Then the band [Roman soldiers] and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.” John 18:12-13. Here we see that both the Jews and the Romans were involved in arresting Jesus.

Pilate had Jesus beaten. Jesus was also beaten by the Jews. John 19:1-4; Mark 14:53-65. How do you think Jesus felt after being on trial all night and beaten by the Jews and Romans? Is it possible, that after the all-night trial and the many beatings, Jesus was so physically weak that He was unable to carry His cross? See Mark 15:21-25, 33-37. Jesus bore your sin and mine in His body on the cross. Jesus was crucified at 9 AM and died six hours later. He cried out, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” When Jesus took upon our sins, He was separated from God the Father. This is the first and only time that Jesus was separated from His Father. Jesus was buried in a tomb by a man named Joseph. Jesus was resurrected three days after His death and burial on the first day of the week (Sunday). See Mark 15:42-47; 16:1-7

What is the Gospel? The Bible says, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:…” 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. The Gospel includes Christ’s death for our sins, His burial and His resurrection. Obeying the Gospel is necessary for salvation. “Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.” 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9. Here we see that everlasting punishment is waiting for those who does not obey the Gospel. Jesus said, “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” Luke 6:46. Who can be saved from sin without obeying the Gospel. “For the time is comet hat judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” 1 Peter 4:17.
